Zabljak is  city in Montenegro in the north of the country.

The city is located at an altitude of 1,456 meters, which makes it the highest located settlement in the Balkans. In comparison, the French Chamonix is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters.

Zabljak is the center of mountain tourism in Montenegro. In Zabljak there are 8 peaks over 2000 meters high, 18 lakes and the deepest canyon in Europe (1450 m), where rafting on the river. The entire territory of the Durmitor mountain range is protected as a national park and provides good opportunities for summer and winter mountain tourism. In Zabljak there is a glacier, where year-round skiing is possible, you can also do mountaineering, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ATV riding, hiking, kayaking, rafting, biking, sport fishing in the mountain river, etc.

The climate is moderately cold. The hottest month of the year is August. The average temperature at this time is about 19-20 degrees Celsius. The coldest month is January. In winter, the temperature is -4 to -8 degrees Celsius. 

The warm season lasts from early June to mid-September, with maximum average daily temperatures above 17 °C. The hottest month of the year in Zabljak is August, with an average maximum temperature of 20 °C.

The winter season lasts from December to mid-March. The coldest month of the year in Zabljak is January.

Snow cover in the vicinity of Zabljak remains until early April and in the mountains until late May.

In terms of snow depth and duration Durmitor is among the first mountains of Montenegro.  In the highest parts of the mountain, the first snow falls in late September and the last in early June.  On the surface, the first snow falls in mid-October and lasts until early May.  The highest parts of Durmitor are under snow for about 200 days a year, and the surface for 120 days.

The population of Zabljak and surrounding villages is about 4000 people

In Zabljak there are schools, kindergartens, chain stores, pharmacies.

The town of Zabljak is located in the Durmitor Mountains of Montenegro, and there are many opportunities to pick mushrooms and berries.

There are many forests in this region, where you can find such types of mushrooms as porcini, mushrooms, beech mushrooms, milk mushrooms, butter mushrooms. As for berries, you can find many kinds of berries in this region, including: blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and cranberries. 

Before picking mushrooms and berries, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the rules of gathering in the region, so as not to damage the environment and not to violate the laws. You should also pay attention to the potential dangers of picking mushrooms, such as poisonous species, and make sure they are safe and edible before eating them.
